Q0: I have a n00b question A: No you don't, a noob question is a question not asked.

Gatherer FAQ

Q1 I need an alpha version
  • step 1: go to the Gatherer download page
  • step 2: scroll down for the "Other downloads and developer versions"
  • step 3: click on "Gatherer"
  • step 4: Select the version you want to download.

Q2 Not all nodes are displayed on the map. A: Display limit is 600 nodes (per map). More is too great a strain on the UI (although they are recycled when changing maps). By using the Filters you can display almost all that you are interested in.

Q3 Is "map" in the previous question a zone or the complete worldmap? A: Map is a zone, thus The Barrens is a map and Elwyn Forrest is another map.

Q4 I'm constantly getting 'interface/Addons/Gatherer/GathererStorage.lua:546: attempt to call field 'GetZoneToken' (a nil value)' or 'Error in Astrolabe.lua:1080: bad argument #1 to 'pairs' (table expected, got nil)' One of the known reasons of people getting this error is an old release of the addon 'Clique'

Q5 I have multiple computers and play on both. Can you merge your saved data? No, not easily. You can try to do it manually, but there is no help tool available. The best thing to do is copy the Gatherer-file from the SavedVariables folder on your main-computer to that on your other computer. And when you are finished on that computer, copy the file back from it to your main-computer.(You can do this, see Question 7)

Q6: Where is the saved data? :S The saved data can be found in the following folder: World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\<your account>\SavedVariables. In this folder you can find the saved data for all addons that need saved data. For Gatherer there is a Gatherer.lua.

Q7: Can I 'give' my data of nodes to a mate without mailing my settings to him? Yes, you can choose to send any number of nodes, from one node to the entire database.
  • step 1: You BOTH need to open the data base window.

Simply click the Gatherer button on the Slidebar, the minimap button, or /Gatherer.
  • step 2: The Sender selects the nodes they intend to send (or by pressing "Mark These").
  • step 3: The Sender enters the name of the recipient.
  • step 4: The Sender presses the "Send Selected" button.

After that, the Sender will see a box that says:
     Send <number of nodes> to <friends name> ?
                    [yes] [no]

The Sender simply selects the "Yes" option, which then causes a box to appear on the Recipient's machine that asks:
    <Your name> wants to send you <number of nodes>
            [Accept] [Deline]

The Recipient selects "Accept" and will then receive the database of the Sender in blocks of 25.
